The solution to that problem is underground cave systems and literal worlds.

The pic is an interpretation of the story about the giant. The first group were slaughtered in an ambush by the thing, and they didn't have a hard time tracking it down after that first encounter at its cave.
I think legit. I was in military and heard about that giant through people well before it was public knowledge.
