Best thing I did was look through playlists on Youtube from the 80s, 90s, and early 00's. Depending on your genre.
For Soundcloud, the best way to find music is to look up your genres with tags in your search.
You can sort it by the most popular or the most recently uploaded tracks or even the oldest I'm pretty sure. You can find some good shit. Even from lesser known artists.
