Weirdly enough, I think the solution is to stay close to your family/support system, do what you can to keep it healthy, while maintaining a strong sense of individuality within that context.
This group coopts more than just the rich and powerful and do more than make people rich and powerful. Everyday people with broken support systems or lacking inner strength (read: easily manipulated) are taken off the street and held captive within their facilities and used for the more menial and rote everyday work, while their deaths are faked under the ruse of a work vacation or friendly invitation to a mysterious event gone wrong. Stay close to people you trust and don't go anywhere you don't know what it is beforehand. If plans change suddenly or you find yourself facing something you didn't expect turn the other way, don't go out of the car, and don't make nor accept any mysterious invitations.
There is little to nothing an individual can do to stop this except to not contribute to it.
Live a healthy and wise life, have children who you raise to be healthy and wise with a strong support system. The struggle against these forces can only be made by a humanity wide effort to continue existing without contributing to its goals.
