Based I think, but I prefer resin incenses, there's something that feels quite magical about the process. The sticks are nice and I think they can really help to get into meditative states, but the resins are much more involved and I enjoy that. Even if they don't do anything they still smell awesome and I'd use them either way.
Are all incenses equal or are some better than others?
Similar to sound or our visual senses different smells evoke a different perception to our discriminative consciousness.
Smoke is as complicated and varied as the plants it comes from. Different incenses are useful for different things.
Spiritual leaders of classical religions of the civilized Old World (Europe and Asia) valued it in different contexts, modern spiritual movements use it in whatever way they see fit.
People can't seem to agree what it actually does, but they do agree that it's good.
Then again, this is simply the argument of authority which should always be questioned.
It makes a room smell nice, aromatherapy basically but with spiritual connotations
It not only makes the room smell nice, it's also insecticidal. The smoke keeps all the mosquitos, flies and bugs away.
some of them smell nice
The sense of smell and its integration into psychic abilities is well known. Incense is a great mood setter for some forms of meditation as well as just general relaxation.
These, brb gonna go burn some
YOOOOOOO!!! Is that real???
Fumigation is associated with the spirits of the air.
People don't realize this, but most incense gets you high.
For example, sage is salvia. All of the sages are slightly psychotropic, although Diviner's Sage (the one known as the drug "Salvia") is the strongest of all of them and used for shamanic voyages.
Dragon's blood? Frankencense? All the incense the Romans used?
It all gets you high if you burn enough of it.
The oracles of Delphi were high as frick bawds.
Now you understand why summoning rituals involve burning large quantities of incense like copal.
I like to use it for different purposes, it adds an extra layer of dimension for me. When i'm meditating i like the smell of palo santo, it feels fresh and clean and makes me feel like i'm in a big temple. When i do ritual work i like the smell of black opium, it's similar to palo santo but it's spicy/hotter rather than fresh and constrictive rather than expansive, so it makes me feel like i'm in a hut. I also use dragon's blood for sleeping sometimes, it reminds me of a medieval fair and i find it comforting.
Of course each incense has many attributions depending on the model you're practicing, planetary magic, goetia...etc. You can also attribute incense to your own constructs and practices. It all comes down to how you use it, i definitely find it useful.
Is a stick you burn for fragrance a scam? No. What?
slow day on /x/
It's a feel good scam for potheads and new age morons.
>he said, while eating a 35 dollar meal at the restaurant
Depends on who you burn it for, if you burn it for wicked spirits and pagan gods then you're cursed and fricked. And if you burn it to God Almighty but you are wicked and are not trying to be righetous, then he will not accept it.
First you must clean your act, seek righteousness, fear God so you do not do wickedness, worship him and love him and then burn incense to him and he will accept the pleasant aroma and bless you or send good things your way.
i just burn it because it smells nice
Same
smells nice and it's super cheap, so I'd buy it for that alone.
If you're buying "premium" stuff, then it's a scam.
As far as spiritual benefits, I think it can help focus during meditation as it'll overwhelm your nose and thus prevent you being distracted by smells. I don't think it'll really do anything else though, you can achieve anything it might offer without it so yea up to you.
I get a bundle for like a buck or 2 at farmers markets sometimes, they sell sage bundles as well but for like 10$, frick that nonsense, that's a scam.
Commodified sage is bad and almost all unsustainably harvested. Frick capitalism
I live in SoCal atm (don't like) and it's a huge market selling to rich kids trying to be hippes, it's honestly disgusting.
If you burn incence in a still room and the smoke seems to go all about. As if someone is blowing air toward it. That means negative, bad spirits in the room.
If the smoke rises in a small, thin column. That means the room is free positive.
