Find Weird Shit on Google Maps

Go turn on satellite imagery on Google maps and report back to this thread with anything weird/spooky/paranormal that you might find, ideally with coordinates visible so others can check it out. I highly recommend deserts or the far arctic, since there's little foliage to cover up cool stuff. Acceptable substitutes include Google street view images of weird stuff, as well as known areas that might not be visually interesting but have a spooky backstory (like the ruins of a ghost town).

Here is one I have found. Why is this millennium falcon out in the middle of nowhere? Why are there boats next to it? Why does it look way deeper than it has any right to be?

It's a circular pond with a boat ramp dividing the long pointy bit. They started making a second one. So they were doing something with the boat, or were using the boat to access whatever they were doing in the water. Beyond that, no idea.

Same ponds, they're in the process of putting a waterproof plastic liner on the bigger one.

Fuel oil container, they have a floating "lid" which goes up and down inside as the fuel level goes up and down. Looks abandoned, maybe. No idea what is causing the bright reflection next to it. If you posted where it is, we could use the historical imagery function on Google Earth to see more, at a time when the reflection was not happening.

So in 1995 the road up to the site had been built. but the tank was not there yet. By 2004 it was there, unfortunately there is no imagery in the years between. Afetr that, the "lid" seems to go up and down a few times, but that may just be different times of day so different shadows. I think the road up to it may be blocked by rocks now, but not sure that's true.
Not much going on there, unfortunately.

    Cool thread

Antarctica in general is weird as heck on google maps, imagery will change based on zoom level, including high-res imagery turning to lower resolution imagery when you zoom in one more level. This spot shows how there will be areas of high resolution imagery next to extremely blurry and pixelated areas.

Its blurred out in Google Earth for me, very lucky whoever first caught that and saved the picture. I thought maybe photoshopped at first, but you can clearly see a shadow of a foot hanging out the back of the truck, and the color of white flesh in the blurred section.

Very disturbing. What happened in that area?

The OP pic has been posted and solved multiple times. It's near an air force base used to test experimental weapons (Naval Air Weapons Station China Lak) it's an artificial body of water (hence the depth and the boat) that they use to test weapons on naval targets. There you go.

I mean this is just how modern farm fields out in the southwest work, it's because of those efficient circular irrigation arm things.

That said, why the frick would you build a fairly small facility like that out in the middle of nowhere? Your workers probably don't want to commute to something like that so what could possibly be important enough to need all that space?

The circles are just how they grow crops in some areas. If you zoom in real close you can actually see the towers and piping that they use to pump out the water onto the soil. You don't see them in the eastern half of the US as much because land in general is better for growing due to being heavily forested and as such already having the ability to sustain large amounts of crops

Considering it's in a reservation, they're probably testing things that would cause problems in a more "civilized area", or just want the privacy that a reservation would provide. In my experience, factories tend to be placed a little further away from population centers than a lot of other businesses as they tend to have to store their production until it's time to ship, and sharing business space in what's effectively the equivalent to a strip mall where everyone's a smaller anchor store with other companies is a pain in the ass more often than not
