I never had the nerve to try any I found plus I think they may have been Pantherina not Muscaria. Also if you dry them above a certain temp in the iven it convert Ibotenic acid to Muscimol (I think, it's been a minute since I read up on this). Which is supposedly what makes them toxic, so infact drying makes them potentially safer for human consumption
You are correct about the conversion chemically, the native peoples of Siberia let their reindeer herds eat them and then they drink the reindeer piss cause its that toxic.
