Everything is a spirit the alcohol could be considered a spirit itself like how natives treat ayahuasca but alcohol specifically changes your spirit is causes thing like mirth another good spirit but can also make you susceptible to darker forces if you are not in a good place. Same with many drugs

I've heard it's called that because it "gives you spirit" as in it makes you excited, gives you courage, makes your animated.

Now my own person view is that drugs are essentially demonic essence in the ohysical realm, and that by partaking in them, you are slowing being corrupted by them.
That being said, some drugs seem beneficial, alcohol seems to be good or bad, as I've seen it be attributed to great music or art, it's clearly tied to festivals and bringing humanity together, but it's also got a dark side with abuse, depression and all that.
I haven't had a drink in a long time but I was always a happy drunk, which I took as a good sign, which is surprising because sober I'm melancholic and misanthropic but drunk I'm the life of the party and I don't have a mean word to say.

right now there are microorganisims inside and on you trying to eat you, when you drink red whine, you feed them for awile so they stop eating you, if you constantly feed them they breed, as their volume increase, even if they no longer consume you, their shit will build to a level it poisons you.
anyone reading this, please ignore the shills here and on television who tell you to drink any sort of rotten fruit eaten and then shit out by bacteria, even if its distilled its still shit.
if you want a simple rule, the longer a thing has been dead, the more you will feed the things in and on you that feed on dead things. and when theres too many, their shit starts to kill parts of you.

I have a complicated view on alcohol and spirituality. On the one hand some preliminary alchemical work involves alcohol, though the alcohol is never the focus even if it is a part of the final product. Jesus turned water into wine as well, and who am I to argue with Jesus? But, alcohol back then was totally different to what it is today, I doubt what Jesus brewed was comparable to modern wine. I have taken a lot of drugs and I've had problems with alcohol, psychedelics could be said to have a spiritual element but frankly I never found a positive spiritual effect to alcohol. In the past I did four years sober from drugs and then three years off from alcohol. I didn't notice real spiritual gains until I quit drinking. That sober period was the most in tune I've ever been, I have had a drink since, but now I generally avoid it and I won't ever drink enough to actually be drunk again. If anything, alcohol has very serious negative spiritual consequences, I have seen people do despicable things completely out of character due to alcohol. I wouldn't be surprised if alcohol was demonic, at the very least I think it opens a person to the possibility of temporary posession.

      Alcohol lowers your inhibitions.
Surprise, but most people suck when they have lower inhibitions, when their guard is let down.

Much like almost anything else in religious texts, when you interpret it literally that is the lowest interpretation of it. Jesus never literally turned water into wine, this is referring to an alchemical process within the body

Nta but stories in the bible are parables; symbolic tales. There are the parables that jesus is quoted as having given, but the recorded acts performed themselves are parables as well.

Libations are a pretty important part of many religions, to the extent that it's hard to find a healthy tradition in particular where it has no role. Offering the gods alcohol is common in many traditions. Traditionally, alcoholic beverages, due to representing the results of a bumper crop of sorts (in the sense that something which would otherwise be turned into mundane food could be allowed to ferment) served as a form of currency, with mass quantities of the stuff having a role similar to livestock.

And this; alcohol is dangerous. Alcohol has cleansing properties in a manner, particularly wine and spirits, but it is very bad for you. It hurts the brain as much as the liver. While there is a time and a place for drinks, it rarely adds anything positive (on a spiritual level) to the group activities which it is generally associated with and it is generally a bad sign if someone is consuming it heavily, alone. For better or for worse, despite all the aforementioned societies which brewed beer and make wine, very few can be said to have developed social institutions which facilitate it serving as a entheogen.

Alcohol is poison. You only feel good because it simultaneously triggeers dopamine release.
Without the dopamine release you'd feel only fhe poison.
You can get a similar effect of alcohol by training hard for about 6 hours, when the dopamine from that kicks in.
Alcohol only brings you low, low spiritually, low intellectually, low physically, becauae it's literally poison.
It's just socailized as acceptable, and a defense mechanism for adults who don't know how to interact with other adults.

As a guy who likes to pretend to be a medieval apothecary; distilled spirits are incredibly important for making herbal medicine. Most the oils and chemicals in plants which have these medicinal values are alcohol soluble. Tinctures are a very consistent way of extracting medicinal values and the stronger the alcohol, the more you extract.

Getting alcohol anhydrous is also a pain in the ass because alcohol and water are miscible. Nowadays you can use 3A molecular sieves to help dry ethanol mixture once you distill the liquid mixture to its common azeotrope level (about 96% alcohol to water) but you have to use either incredibly strong salts (such as potassium phosphate or copper sulphate) if you don't have those. Can't just use regular table salt like you can with isopropyl alcohol.

There is also a potential danger factor during the alcohol distillation process in general as methanol is a common alcoholic byproduct after fermentation. That usually requires a second distillation of the product or most likely just pitching the first bit as the temperature is cooler. This shows and inherent danger in the process of alcohol distillation as well as either rushing things, or going about things hastily.

In short, alcohol itself carries a very important weight in both purification, medicine, risk/reward, and even the pursuit of knowledge itself. It's only proper that indulgence in this substance causes one to suffer the negatives of everything listed above.

Alcoholics Anonymous isn't political, it's a self-help / group therapy organization. Clearly you've spent way too much time on EerieWeb and are polarized to think that everybody on this site who posts something you don't like for whatever reason comes from that board. I don't know what there supposedly isn't to like about AA though.

The reason alcohol gets called "spirits" is because consuming alcohol equates to giving up control, essentially letting the spirits take over, whatever those may be (within or without). The more you drink, the more control you give up. Completely give up control and you get a blackout, indistinguishable from missing time from other paranormal phenomena. Hangovers can be quite revealing as well, tho not necessarily relating to the consumer.

    Have fun!
