Why was Belphegor punished

He didn't participate in any side nor stood against one, Therefore isn't it absurd to punish a person eternally for refusing to participate in a nonsensical bloodshed ? Doesn't he have the right to just be a centrist, A complete outsider ?

I believe it's because he was an Angel and it was his duty to defend God or either lean to Satan and betray God, It's a huge philosophical dilemma but without all that shit, I believe that whoever possessed humane qualities (unperfect) was deemed to be a Demon.

I believe Belphegor represents us humans in a way

Yes we are condemned forever to suffer, Our human race is a result of that betrayal, We are not perfect and life is ephemeral, Take solace in that.

Eh, one could argue jealousy and anger are imperfect emotions. Like father like son.

Notice how all demons possess all the Humane qualities ? It's like we possess them all, Somehow cursed.

despite being called the sin of Sloth, this sin can also include things like apathy. Belphagor was apathetic to the battle between YHWH and Lucifer and thus was defying HIM, so he was cast out. People often underestimate how bad of a sin Sloth/Apathy is. Imagine a doctor who becomes too lazy(apathetic) to properly care for his patients, or imagine a farmer who becomes too lazy(apathetic) to properly tend to his crop. You have a duty, not just to yourself but to those around (and by proxy God), to do the best you can. As the saying goes
    >the devil makes work for idle hands

I know, That's a good metaphor society wasn't built on a whim, There were people behind it therefore i believe you're right but what i meant here is that Belphagor did not want to actually join any side therefore he does not defy nor harm anyone, So what's the cause of the punishment truly rather than his Apathy or laziness, I believe Belphagor could be a primal example for NEETs but honestly Belphagor is humane because humans are bound to suffer

      >Doesn't he have the right to just be a centrist, A complete outsider?
No, this is because doing nothing in some cases is itself a sin.

      Agreed.
      >Imagine watching someone getting beaten to death and doing nothing to help them. It creates callous indifference to suffering which leads to harmful negligence.

      >What's wrong with not picking a side?
The issue was his in-action during a state of crisis and his rebellion against God's order to protect heaven. Is it a sin to sit and wait? No. However when your neighbors house is on fire and you have the ability to help but choose to do nothing it becomes one. In-action in the face of evil is sin.

Dude, angels won't smile at you unless you work yourself to the bone making medicine out of treebark to help others. The bar for salvation is so low because it is genuinely that hard to be a good person.

This. Salvation really begins when you realize how much the average person sucks, including yourself. It is outrageously difficult to be good in a world that's so naturally bad.

Because God is the source of all good in the entirety of reality so you would have to be a complete moron not to fight for him, even if it's out of ambivalence. Plenty of people choose hell out of ambivalence.
