Unironically though "Satanism" isn't just one thing, because "Satan" isn't just one thing to people to begin with.

A certain breed of Christian likes to lump all of their potential enemies together as one group, who are all secretly "worshipping Satan", and by Satan they mean the guy with the horns, but that's not really what's going on.

I mean, Lucifarians are real, but they're definitely not worshipping "the guy with the horns". They're worshipping a figure of liberation, as far as they see it.

And then there's the atheist "Satanist", for whom it's all metaphor, and an excise for edgelordery.

And then there are people who maybe worship old pagan Gods, who from the perspective of Christians would be "devil worshippers", but that's an outsider's opinion. They don't consider themselves devil worshippers.

There are low level satanists and high level satanists. They habit different levels of society. And if most people see only those of the surface level, they might think satanists are merely harmless weirdoes.

Deep inside the heart of every Christian fundamentalist is the suspicion that their true master is actually Satan. That's why they get so upset any time the subject is broached.

No the Satanists they are talking about are not from the 20th-century Californian hedonism cult. They are "satanic" because they have convinced themselves they must operate "beyond good and evil" in order to be proper shepherds of humanity and this planet. They are in fact part of a very old Babylonian witchcult and not "theistic satanists" in the modern sense of that term. They identify with the adversary because their secret religion is older and very different in its understanding of morality than Christianity, so they see themselves as one-sided enemies of Christians, who they mock but are not supposed to actually hate, as that is a limiting emotion which leads to reactive thinking and not a proper advancement of "the Work."

So a kind of Machiavellian humanistic materialism?

No, they are Idealists and Gnostics... but they are Machiavellian. Sacrifices to Satan are a Christian fiction thing. They sacrifice to other gods and entities, but a Christian would say it's all in service to Satan and doesn't matter what Bronze Age oogilyspook they actually name or care about.

    >Why are Satanists so overhyped in conspiracy theories and creepypastas?

(Predominantly white) American Christians have been psyopped into not understanding/developing any kind of class consciousness. They’re able to instinctively pick up on the fact that rich people are creepy sex weirdos, do a lot of drugs, break laws, are self interested, and do a lot of evil things but they aren’t willing to acknowledge that corporate greed, material interests, or central bank/intelligence agency influence alone could be the sole motivation for all of the shit they do so they chalk it up to satan or Lucifer (literally not a biblical figure). So you end up with the situation where Elon musk is bad because he did some corny ass Halloween costume like picrel, and not because basically all billionaires are pieces of shit by default.

Rich people like this because they can do le heccin creepy dogwhistles in public and bait internet schizos into wasting hours doing gematria and tracing pentagrams in company logos but they’ll completely ignore the global central banking financial network that enables all of the evil shit they do.
