this is moronic, plenty of animals feel depression and kill themselves, cats and dogs are some of the easiest to know cases, starving themselves when in serious depressions and isolating themselves because they feel like shit and dont wanna be around people

Are you sure they want to die?

Maybe they just don’t want to live with the current pain?

Bees intentionally kill themselves when they sting, male black widows and praying mantis mate knowing theyre gonna get eaten.

If you kidnapped a depressed person and left them on a deserted island with abundant food and water but they had to fend for themselves I highly doubt the first thing they would do is hang themselves. Depression is environmental.

This, take depressed people in a world that isn't Earth and suddenly their social problems vanish

Yeah because the lack of breathable atmosphere would kill them in minutes, if not sooner.

This is exactly why people kill themselves, they are in pain, can't find relief from the pain, so either they live the rest of their life in pain or end it. What kind of life is it to live in perpetual agony, no hope of consistent comfort or healing Foxconn, Columbine, WW2 Anthropoid Nazi resistance member's when raided.
People also go crazy, e.g. post-partum depression.
The people in pain don't want to die - they want the pain to stop. Their final solution is to an hero, again, only to cease the pain.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal_suicide
animals are capable of feeling grief and depression, and can commit suicide, though this is exceedingly rare outside of captivity.
The primary difference between our lives and those of animals relevant (intelligent and social [elephants, dolphins, bonobos, corvids, etc]) is: they are in their natural environment, in which their needs will, usually be always met. Modern society is not natural, and it's quite common for a person's needs to be rarely met.

*I mean commiting suicide in a context that isn't biologically predetermined to happen, grief and depression can be felt by animals regularly

We have a lack of empathy for animals because most people have difficulty reading their emotions expecting them to be human like. How many dumb videos have you seen of a nervous pitbull "smiling" and their owner just laughing?

Animals suffer all the time although they probably can't quite understand death the way we do. Maybe dolphins are whales can but I don't believe we have fully grasped how intelligent they are.

Yes there are. Elephants, whales, dogs, pigs, cows, cats, apes, even a parrot
