Teh Unresolved Mystery of Vampires

Hey /x/, I've been doing some deep diving into the lore of vampires and something's been bugging me. We all know the common traits - immortality, aversion to sunlight, garlic, holy water, and mirrors, right? But here's what I can't wrap my head around...

If vampires are immortal and can only be killed by a stake through the heart, how come they're so vulnerable to sunlight? I mean, it's just light, right? And if they can't see their reflection in mirrors, how do they always have such impeccable style? Do they just wake up looking that fabulous?

And another thing, if a vampire bites a person and that person becomes a vampire, wouldn't we all be vampires by now? The exponential growth just doesn't add up.

What are your thoughts, /x/? Can anyone provide a logical explanation for these vampire inconsistencies?

The oldest syncretic vampires recorded in history are the "khu" which originate from Egypt and are the disembodied etheric bodies of people who had undergone an embalming ritual called "the opening of the second mouth".

They were basically walking farts attached to their corpse and priests would feed them warm bodily fluids (blood from animal sacrifices) regularly. When one was left unattended it would leave the temple at night and wander away from its corpse in search for warm excretions from animals and humans or in some cases they would "scratch" animals or people to draw blood. The etheric body and etheric constructs in general unravel with sunlight, iron and allegedly some chemicals in food or scents.

These proto-vampires were also a thing in some parts of Europe where similar embalming traditions were practiced, this is theorized to be reason they started burning their dead in those zones, once the corpse is burned the etheric body also disappears. The current image of the hot and charismatic, well preserved vampire is an entertainment industry conflation of literary works, real vampires don't have physical bodies, the etheric body is said to have the consistency of mucus and to be translucent.

The khu are closer to our traditional idea of ghosts, although the etheric body is tangible and they fed on the "energy" emanating from bodily fluids.

The khu however didn't originate from a misunderstanding with sickly humans as was the case with the victims of porphyria in the 19th century. Although the theory of vampires being people affected by porphyria is only accepted by the mainstream public as a factoid, professionals think otherwise.

        >The theory has been rejected by a few folklorists and researchers as not accurately describing the characteristics of the original werewolf and vampire legends or the disease, and as potentially stigmatizing people with porphyria.

The "second" part developed in occult circles at some point because the embalming ritual references opening the mouth of the etheric body so it can feed, a second mouth.

OP here, great to see how not a single poster addressed any of the questions in the post, and several of the replies feel like bots.

Just to make that clear, the OP was written by Bing Copilot when asked to make a thread for /x/, because I wanted to see how that would turn out. It seems the botposters here took the bait, while when I make normal threads they don't normally post much in them.

        Interesting experiement don't you think?

PS I edited a bit to make it look more like a real post.

Sorry OP next time i'll write like i haven't read a book in my life so it doesn't look like i'm a bot even though you're the one using a bot.

I was just about to come on here to post a thread about this girl I met who I think is a vampire. Are vampires real? I have a few reasons to think this. She is way older than she looks, and she doesn't seem to react to cold weather. Are vampires people who are possessed by demons?

Do you know which racial group has the biggest number of Tay-sachs sufferers? Do you know the ancient remedy for Tay-sachs?
I'm just curious if you know. I'm by no means suggesting you research it. I don't want to be held responsible for you noticing coincidences you shouldn't be noticing.

    >how come they're so vulnerable to sunlight?

Because a guy in Germany made a shitty movie ripping off Dracula in 1922 where vampires are vulnerable to sunlight, and pop culture picked up on that thinking it was real folklore.

    That's it. /thread

    >If vampires are immortal and can only be killed by a stake through the heart, how come they're so vulnerable to sunlight?
Vampiric beings are just a region of the collective unconscious that some spirits associate with. The things you mention are cues to their collective past:
    >immortal:
spirits are relatively immortal or long lived. But they ordinarily change over time and develop. Even if killed (death is transformation) they will regenerate into their old selves.
    >only with a stake through the heart [is that cycle broken]:
an external force, with precision and delivered into the higher heart.
    >vulnerable to the sun:
the sun is not their friend. The light they might try to suck from others hints at a deficiency and way of life at once.
    >if a vampire bites a person and that person becomes a vampire
Well you don't become one by a bite. Your spiritual organ that generates a well of creative energy by itself has to be forcibly removed. From that deficiency comes the necessity to feed on other dreams, imaginations and to invade the spirits of others.
    >they can't see their reflection in mirrors
to see yourself in a mirror is to see yourself. If they can't see their own nature in the spiritual realm would they be inspired or aware to change? Or would the oblivious continue thinking that's all there is to it? They can suck your essence and mimick it: yet doesn't have a reflection in the upper realms. If you were a seething mass of dark tendrils would you want to stay that?
    >wouldn't we all be vampires by now?
if your spirit was hijacked a part of it would retreat into the realms where such spirits cannot reach, but your human body can still be tethered to some inbetween that isn't your you. Even if there is an attempt to change your etheric body you still have to consciously accept it. You can also expire in the attempt or shard yourself off.
