Stop bringing God down to your level

Religious people really seem arrogant to think they could ever possibly hope to begin to understand the mysteries of God in this lifetime. Much less have everything figured out, which most of them believe they do.

NTA but probably. No longer a Christian but it was a common practice in the ancient Levant to have what’s called matzevot, i.e standing stones. They were objects ritually consecrated as the dwelling place of a deity and Jesus directly compared himself to Bethel or Jacob’s Ladder

i am catholic and thats not what we believe. jesus is omnipresent. what is special about the blessed sacrament is not that it is jesus' dwelling place but that it is jesus himself

God is infinite right? That is incomprehensible, even his greatest most perfect creation would be a finite thing and thus nothing more than nothing to him

I don't think they do it enough to be honest. I'm the anon that always points out that religion (at least the big 3) are nothing but power worship. If you are well-intended, it is objectively illogical and risky to surrender moral aurhority to something simply because it is more powerful than you. Especially if you cannot understand it. You must attempt to understand it within your own working framework should you wish to interface with it at all. To be obedient to faceless power is to be nothing but a slave without integrity of any kind, and if that is what God rewards, well, I'm sure you can see the issue there without me going any deeper.

It is simply illogical to not worship the all powerful creator of the universe even if you do not understand Him. You know what "almighty" means, right? it means He is in total control at all times, our lives are in His hands. It is because of God that we even exist at all

Worshiping power is devil worship, simple as that.

That's the stupidest thing I've heard on /x/ so far this morning. Why do you worship the supreme being then, because a book tells you to? You worship God for the same reason I do but I'm honest about it and get down to the brass tacks of it

I could rant walls on this, but here the most major flaw with your argument:
You don't know that for certain. Even in the bible God demonstrated the capacity and willingness to lie or mislead humans as he sees fit. Even if it was granted he exists, and you could be certain he does, you cannot be certain he is all-powerful and not just more powerful than you.
That is the main why I say it is illogical, because the same exact logic and line of thinking can just as easily place you under the heel of Kim Jong Un, for example. That is also why it shouldn't be expected or rewarded, or the absence of such faith be punished.

Even if God is some kind of "cosmic dictator" it is still rational to worship Him because He is supreme, simple as

          You worship Mammon.

"Mammon" is not the creator God/the universal Sovereign, of which there is only one

          >you cannot be certain he is all-powerful

Yes I can. Notice I didn't even say which God or point to any particular religion, I just said I worship the creator of the universe, the first cause. There is only one creator of the universe and the nature of such a being necessitates He is all powerful.

          You worship Baal.

You probably don't know what baal is either and are just pulling biblical words you've heard out of your ass. Let me guess, it's "israeli"

My issue is with faith, worship, and obedience requirements, specifically of religions as stated originally.
To worship "the one all-powerful God" the title, not concerning an identity of that what occupies the position, is something else. The conundrum of whether or not it is right to worship it, even if it is all-powerful, still exists; and at the end of the day it is power worship to directly assign moral authority to it based on its power, whether we understand it or not.
Further, it must be admitted that for the reasons I presented, it would be impossible to know the identity of that which does occupy that position; and so back to my original point, any being or what-have-you that presents that way or claims to be it, ought not be taken as it. Morals ought not be surrendered to power alone, and the apparent identity of Gods and their suppised communications or decrees, etc, ought to be scrutinized.

Okay I have a follow up question. Why do YOU worship God?

        >it's the right thing to do
        Why?
        >Because God tells you to?
And why should God be obeyed?

Do you see where I'm going with this

You're talking about me. You're wrong. "Moses approached the deep darkness, where God was." We, Christians, who know the Living God, know better than anyone the goodness of God and the incomprehensibility of God. The Christians who walk the closest to the Lord know it best of all. He is fully knowable AND fully unknowable. Seek Christ.
