Serious Question

This has been bothering me for a while and I would like to hear other people's opinions on the matter. I have noticed that a popular notion amongst multiple religions and esoteric traditions is to search for the means to achieving "universal oneness" or acceptance of belief in the inevitability of your consciousness eventually returning to and merging with "the source." These concepts are usually discussed almost nonchalantly or, conversely, considered something to be earnestly sought by those seeking nirvana, enlightenment, or whatever.

Does this concept not frighten you? I'm all for seeking to expand your perceptions and attaining higher states of consciousness but the idea of disolving one's ego as part of the process terrifies me. Experience and memories gained during this lifetime are the only existence I can consciously recall so the notion that my identity must cease to exist in order to reincarnate or achieve higher states of existence seem like something we should want to avoid. After all, if you can't remember a thing then it might as well have never existed from your point of view. Does anyone else feel this way?

    >Does this concept not frighten you?
Oblivion frightens me. The cessation of qualia is scary, it's the ultimate hell as far as I'm concerned. Merging with "the source" or "monad" or whatever doesn't necessitate this, but it could, I don't know. I'd like to just be sure that I can have an experience outside the fleshy automaton of a meatbag I'm currently in first to be honest.

Ask any actual enlightened being and they will tell you the same thing I'm about to tell you

It should be sought after, and it is worth having. Your description about what it is when you don't really know what it is, is just dunning krueger syndrome. You will have a harsh time integrating back into Western society, that's about it.

Thinking that your words are greater then the thoughts of heaven is why they associate pride with the "devil". Just admit you don't know shit about a subject instead of speculating and creating your own idea about it forcefully.

Yeah it's scary, but only because of what you think it is, when it's not actually that at all.

Fate is like living according to "natural laws", or how reality works.
As humans we have free choice between 2 polarity's in anything.
We can do things that are out of alignment with the fate, but based on what we do we get "karma more like a memory of an event".
We are responsible for what we do and think, what we give out come back for us, for us to balance it.
Ego is more just part of human body experience, if you go in higher levels of consciousness, there is no ego, that human body have.
Is not harm to have ego, is just a tool to work with. There is no good or bad, there is no meaning, you have free choice to give meaning to your reality.
When you rise your vibration at a point you will lost fear of dead too, you will understand the role it have and might even understand you can live longer. There is a way to have eternal body, and live forever on physical world.
You never will forget anything that you know. But for some reason we forget who we ware after we reincarnate. One reason is that past is not important, only present, and future.
Only in present moment you are able to change energy memories of the past.
When we die we will know everything.

      What he says !

      >Men have been taught to seek the truth in the mouths of those around us, to seek God in the sky, to consider ourselves people who sin, to act wrongly and then ask for forgiveness, we wear masks to make others like us. These teachings are now over. The truth is within us, too, as well as God; We are human beings, but we have embarked on a path of improvements.

      >We must become good, in order for good to turn well towards us, we must become our own, so we become what we were. No one should listen blindly to anyone anymore, not me, or anyone else. Words must pass through our mind and soul, for in the heart is the Holy Place of Truth. This place is inaccessible to the mind. No mind can penetrate there. Therefore I tell you, to listen to me with your soul, think with your heart and live in God.

Always pay attention to that feeling, because it's your soul knowing the truth. At least the truth of the way you're interpreting the idea, so it must be wrong.

The only thing I can say for sure about "oneness" is that (if it's true, and I'm not sure that it is) you would NOT seek it by surrendering your self.
Think about it like this: If you ARE oneness then you would find it by seeking what you ARE. Not by letting it go.

So whatever the answer is, seeking the truth of your self is the way to get there.
To surrender it is to fall into darkness and slavery of the soul. And it seems like many spiritual schools of thought are teaching that dark version. Probably because they've been infiltrated and their original meaning distorted over time.

Also just want to point out since you mentioned "ego". That I would say you aren't your ego, so finding the truth of your self still means to see past the ego.
But the ego and the "self" are not the same thing. Ego is more like your avatar in a video game.

But of course you have to decide if that makes sense to you for yourself. Because the one thing you can count on is your (true) self. That doesn't mean to hold on to whatever you currently know yourself to be, because that's not your true self.

It's not even that. The ego would be like the suit of armor you equip your avatar with. Or the experience points you invest into your chatacter as you progress.
You are not your avatar, and your avatar is not its equipment or level.
The longer you play a game, the more you associate your character with the stats you invested in. That's the ego. And that, indeed, disolves because it doesn't mean shit. The means to progress are NOT the progress itself.

The Lord: "Reality-limit", Manjusri, of what is that a synonym?

Manjusri: It is a synonym of individuality (satkaya). (214)

The Lord: In what hidden sense do you say that?

Manjusri: Nonexistent (asat), O Lord, is that body (kayo), not a true individual body (satkayo). It neither transmigrates nor does it fail to do so. That is why that body is not a true individual body (asatkaya).

Saradvatiputra: Destined for enlightenment, O Lord, will be those Bodhisattvas (215) who, on hearing this exposition of perfect wisdom, will believe, will not tremble, be frightened or terrified.

this is the simples way to describe this. You are always consciousness i all of your states, the real You. But in the awake state you are indentified with the thought I which is indentified with your body and as such it creates mind, small mind to say. When you are awake you are in samadhi state or trans state of precepting world around yourself as extention of mind according to your body and mind ability. You as you think of yourself does not really exist and is a thought dream that eventualy ends. But your big I. Or I I. Purusha, pure cconsciousness is always here, it is You. You never were something that you think you are to begin with. Its funny, something so simple is right there in front of you all the time and you cannot see it. I dont mean you, i mean people in general. Be quitet and all shall be revealed to you.

of course whatever we do it is an expression of our true nature. but as long as you think you have to attain something special you are not doing anything!
