This is exactly what Shinji needed to do.

So, LCL is the fluid that connect the pilot to the Eva.

It's secretly collected from "Lilith" in Central Dogma.
Humans, or life in general, were all created from Lilith. Essentially humans are LCL held together, and separated by their AT fields.
The point of the "Human Instrumentality" project was to unite humanity by eliminating this barrier. Turning everyone into "tang" A sea of LCL.

Granted there are different continuities between manga, anime, and film adaptations.

      Anonymous

At times, usually after an intense battle, the pilots would find themselves dream like collective unconscious. Characterized by a sunset. Giving everything an amber glow as if submerged in LCL.

        Anonymous

As I said, there's different continuities. The big mystery in the Anime was who killed Kaji - and why?

Kaji was doing some shady double agent type stuff. Because he died, he wouldn't be turned into tang, and join the collective unconscious. Obscuring some truth to everyone else.

A truth, in his final episode, is what he wanted to learn. Cryptic, I know.

There was evidently a lot of revisions happening. Every entry does something different with Kaji.

I'll remind everyone that Tokyo was destroyed in a previous angel attack, and that the Geofront base is an underground dome. So where is this scene, Kaji's final moments, taking place?
On the surface? Or in some LCL dream?

other anons will be capable of explaining this in detail, but tldr is that the show is a metaphor for individuation. it culminates in gnosis, but there is debate to whether it is supportive or critical of achieving it

Shinji's mother was "tanged" in an experiment.
She was a student of this professor guy, fuyutsuki - who Kaji rescues. All the science and theories go back him and he clearly had a thing for Shinji's mom.

The Rebuild films hint at a connection between Kaji and Kaworu. Kaworu wasn't "Lilith-kin" but "Adam-kin'.
I suspect Kaji was too. I think Kaji had himself LCL'd, by the professor, like Shinji's mother, to be used in Kaworu's Eva.

But that's just my personal headcanon that Kaworu wouldn't be compatible with Lilith derived LCL and would need an alternative source. But in other continuities, like the playstation games, will show Shinji and Kaworu swimming in LCL together.

In the Rebuild Films, Kaji isn't shot but still dies off screen in an unexplained manner. He also doesn't give Gendo an Adam Embryo, but a Key of Neberkanazer

The truth behind evangelion is that some chinaman saw some doc on christian symbolism and thought it was cool and then went on and made a show that he hamfisted said symbolism into without giving it any thought

Evangelion is a 5D metaphoric reflection of our realities jungian shadow. The entire series is a ritual from beginning to end, including the rebuilds. Everything you see has happened in a different but similar form in real life. The EVA units and their pilots are super soldiers. Their base construction is of a nephilim (recovered from Antarctica) which has been enhanced and controlled through cybernetics. The nephilim were super soldiers of the distant past, but today children are used. They are kidnapped and then tortured in order to awaken latent psychic abilities and ultimately transformed into weapons. Much of this process involves "trip chairs" not too dissimilar from the unusual way the EVA unit is piloted.

Shinji achieved the apocalypse by reaching ain soph, this is why he gets to chose to rebuild the world or some other kabalistic shit such as mending of the worlds through judgment. in all seriousness I have to rewatch the cringy series again now that I'm old.

        this
The greatest works of art are all produced unconsciously, the author being a conduit rather than a conscious actor. It doesn't matter if Anno said 'it looked cool lol'. It's just an admission of it being unconscious. If anything the fact it resonates with so many people is evidence of its unconscious origins.

no actual author wants to explain his entire thought process in an interview with someone who will aggressively criticize and interrupt every chance they get. a writer will just handwave it and leave people who are actually interested to interpret his message, hoping he got it across alright.

The number of gullible brainlets who saw, remember, and cite this same interview (while also conveniently ignoring that he's talking to a school girl) is staggering. Maybe the true Third Impact was the morons we filtered along the way

The point is that you unironically need to go outside and live in the real world and force yourself to meaningfully interact with others, especially if you have an introverted nature. Shinji rejecting instrumentality is an allegory for leaving your introverted comfort zone and rejecting escapism. However it's not as simple as just deciding one day to embrace life, it's something you have to constantly choose every day (this part is what EoE is about). The rebuilds are a meta-narrative about how nobody got the point of the original, and instead fell deeper into escapism and fantasy (waifus).

      This 100x's.
You cant stay the same all your life, you have to grow up, you have to move on in life. You cant just hide away in your own little cave or made up world or else you just disappear in a sea of other peoples thoughts actions and dreams, like the LCL.
Makes sense cause when this came out Anno saw a generation of young school aged people either prosper, or just shut themselves up in their rooms and just disappear.
Like the introverts, sometimes coming out of their shell or going out and socializing, can feel like fighting the world, or a losing battle, or fighting God. but it has to be done. why? if you dont you just wither away and die/disappear/become soup...
On the other hand, there needs to be caution on stepping into the world, or else you get these severe autism displays like the dude who just recently set himself on fire. Theres a flood of media, memes, social and cultural views that can overload young minds and warp views into violent or deviant behavior. Also this minds might get scared off into retreating and holing themselves up at home in or in basements, etc. which might explain the multiple versions of the story, and why Tokyo was destroyed previously. It takes a few tries to get life right.

Its funny how unnerving this shit is to everyone cause we cant accept it.

Its like we know there is truth to collective consciousness. We just try and go in the other direction.

Only issue is that it propogates its own problems. We cant homogenize because we seek novel connection with another being.

We struggle pushing and separating cause it just creates more conflict and differences. Yet thats the end, we gotta just have a chaotic never ending cycle with this weird 'we could totally unify' carrot on a stick religion always dangles...

Like we need to be stuck in this forever cycle self proposing it gets better cause then it just feels better in the moment.

We have so many takes on the same fricking idea cause Gods been through em all. We just dice it up different each time.

From there we gotta find meaning and cope. We gotta be Gods consciousness split indefinitely. We gotta respect every individual as God yet still see difference and believe in it.

You write something like this and its this struggle of soul, to talk about the hurtful truth while seeking the comfort of sharing. Its rough, its why illuminati exist, or the chop wood carry water, or the i am therefore. Or the infinite other ways we challenge to keep this afloat.

I hit my walls, i just appreciate seeing others do to. Makes me comforted this is an ongoing struggle we still manage. Im not alone, we cant end it, we cant unify, but we can find answers individually.

The truth is that a homosexual angel fell in love with Shinji and all the NGE series are just Kaworu experiencing things in a groundhog day type cycle trying to frick Shinji. That's literally all there is to it.
