    Fell for the noob trap.
Meditation is the passive observation of reality with a correct understanding and no resistance. If you aren't doing this sitting around and doing nothing does jackshit.
If you are doing this you could be meditating while having sex.

No, I'm pretty sure anon can't do that. Unless he pays a prostitute for the service, in which case he has a long way to go before even considering meditation.

Not to defend the OP but "sitting around and doing nothing" is basically right because yes you are sitting and being the passive observer thus effectively you "aren't doing anything" because you don't interact with anything which pops up, however you are being super attentive and thus you are being somewhat active in doing this and not 100% passive.

You can meditate by essentially getting in the zone while doing whatever you're doing, having an empty head and just having things flow through you. Incredible craftsmen often meditate while they're working.

      >nooo you need to run in place for mr noseberg and his shekels

      These anons know.

Sit in the dark and be the observer of such thoughts such as "Meditation is useless" and "Meditation is useless" and ignore them/throw them away and don't be absorbed by them and return to the silence of the here and now, this is meditation.

This anon too although I wouldn't advice anyone to try and "return/go into silence" since the need/wanting to do so may disturb the actual silence.

real question, what makes this different from voluntary dissociation?

        Anonymous

        >what makes this different from voluntary dissociation
"Voluntary Dissociation" like a lot of materialism terms is a baggage deal of negative connotations along with a host of other materialist metaphysical assumptions.
The main assumption here is you are nothing but an animal of material evolution whose sole purpose in life is reproduction and slaving for your herd society.
Thus if you voluntarily dissociate mentally from this "evolutionary purpose" then you are ill and in need of correction, aka meds.
So to answer you question, it is different because meditation rejects both the materialist premise and its associated negative connotation.

Correct understanding in what sense if you don't mind me asking?

That whatever you can observe cannot be you; an observer cannot observe itself.
This include your body, your thoughts, your emotions and memories..etc.

          Anonymous

NTA but "correct understanding" comes once you can achieve that point of observation from which you are not influenced by what [...] said: body, thoughts, emotions and memories.

You are aware of all those things (body, thoughts e.t.c) but at the same time you are not influenced by them, thus, you don't view reality through a lens but for what it really is.

A simple example is: Someone gets angry at you for some reason, you feel scared and in return you become angry too because that's your defense mechanism which you learned in your childhood, you then attack with him with insults and you never talk to him again and you hold on to that experience as a memory which marks that person as a "bad" one for the rest of you life, all this procedure seems natural to you and you don't question it, it's like an automatic process which you don't have any control over and you may not even realize that it controls your life.

If you take the same example but instead you are being meditative about it you will instantly see all those things arise (emotions, thoughts e.t.c.) and if you're trained enough you won't be influenced by them that much, you will be above them and not their slave, you will see the emotions of anger and the hateful thoughts being played in front of you like a theatrical play instead of being absorbed by them and being their slave, you may even look straight into the eyes of the person and see/feel his anger better and maybe even realize where his anger truly comes from.

          Thank you for answers <3

It's nothing more than a time wasting placebo effect.

I’ve been meditating for quite some time. To be honest, I’m starting to notice several connections between major religions and what their goal is.

Spoilers we are all after the same thing and are all pursuing it in different ways.

Spoiler they all work. Just some people have an affinity for one method over another.

Here’s a good question. Especially if you’re Christian.

What is Christ and who is jesus?
        What is the Holy Spirit?
What is Sin and what is virtue?

What’s the honest difference between heaven and hell and what is the difference between non-existence and existence?

If you didn’t exist how would that feel?

A lot of philosophy gets weird too and even physics.

        Shit exist and also doesn’t.

the allegory of crucifixion is code for celibacy.

cristos is etheric seed, creaed in the skull and descended into the genital regions ("as Christ descended..")
the genital regions is where the "tree" (genital) is and its fruit is orgasm, which you are led to partake by the influence of the "serpent" (lust)
when you overcome the serpent, you are like the wise virgins of the parable of 10 virgins, wise because you now have "oil" (anointing = cristos) in your "lantern".
cristos, if thus accepted, travels up the spine, with its 33 vertebrates, in daily prostrations, piercing open the 7 seals (energy centers, chakras), goes into your golgotha (skull) and dies there.
        ("so must he ascend")
the seed must die for the tree to be born (3 days later)

this is how amrita is produced, the elixier of immortality, which regenerates the dead spirityal man until what is knwon as the glorified body aka rainbow body in buddhism.

this, celibacy, is the only means to the father and is found in all religions. true christians are celibates, found in all religions. true christianity is not a religion, its non sectarian. all who are against celibacy or cristos bearing, are anti cristos...

and a lot of filmmakers who don't meditate make great films, big whoop

plus, lynch gives me groomer vibes. i think it started when he was able to talk ingrid bergman's daughter into doing all sorts of degenerate shit in blue velvet, that gave him a power trip. he mellowed out with twin peaks but not even a year later he couldn't contain himself when he did the NC-17 wild at heart and just had to see laura dern get naked WITH her mom in the same movie!!!! then he did the same thing with laura palmer in Twin Peaks Fire Walk with Me that he did with isabella rossellini in blue velvet. then he does the same thing with patricia arquette who is known for not doing any nude scenes prior to take it all off in Lost Highway. naomi watts is literally his b***h now. there's one interview where naomi says, "(during the lesbo scene in mulholland dr.) lynch said, why don't you let ms. harring circle your nipple with your tongue?" and naomi was like, "if it wasn't david lynch, i would say, 'hell, no, perv! but because it's lynch and i admire his shit, i trusted him and it was cool"

I've dived into the studies on mindfulness meditation TLDR the benefits haven't been debunked but, rather, they are inconclusive.

Here's my issue: the studies are all on a short-term basis. Developing mindfulness is a long, long journey that can take several years of daily practice. There needs to be a study pitting long-term meditators against regular people.

Meditation is knowing the mind, when you know something, you can control and use it.
You're becoming aware of your subconscious thoughts (feelings) and can choose not to react to or identify yourself with a current feeling; I am hungry, I am angry, I am sad.
You then become free to act consciously, rather than to the whims of feelings.

Instead, learn to just be, I AM, and observe the world around and within you.

Explain how the placebo effect works

Not what it is. How it actually works using real western science.

The placebo effect is the modern scientists way of writing off the fact that faith alone, which itself is unquantifiable, has substance. They gave it a fun name so no one questions the fact that they don’t know why it exists. Stop intellectualizing, and use the power innate.

meditation is not sitting down doing nothing

    > anapanasati sutta inc

    a/na = on/off or in/out
    pana = prana = chi = energy
    sati = awareness

buddha never thought to sit still and do le nothing. he clearly told you to be celibate, resensitize your spine by not eternally cooming and overloading it pranically, sit and become aware of the flacutations of prana.

meditation is enegy practice, just like qigong.

once you master prana, you withdraw it from the senses, including the mind. this is how you experience "piti" aka rapture aka intense bodily vibrations (just like in OOB experiences) and enter jhana, which is aka samadhi or kingdom of heaven.

you dont know all that because you did not pay propher heed to: no cooming.
so you have it done unto yourself, now go back to hell, the avg. worldly life, coomer

          >why would you think celibacy, the single common foundation across all religions, is a meme??
The number one reason people dismiss this notion is that none of them had birth control. That makes for more than enough motivation to explain the commonalities.

            Anonymous

celibacy is abstaining not from procreation, but also from orgasming and more importantly, from mentally lusting, in order to stop the essence being downgraded into physical sexual fluids, so that the essence (cristos, seed) can be led to the skull (golgotha) via prostrations or pressurized breathing techniques, to form amrita, living waters etc. etc.

in light of this, your explanation does not make sense

Okay, maybe. But there's the 80/20 rule, 80% of your success comes from 20% of the things you do. If you find the key 20%, that's all you need to do, leaving you with 80% of free time to do whatever you want.
So, doing nothing is a way to test what you have to keep doing, and what you can stop doing.
If you couldn't do anything at all, people surrounding you would take care of you, and you wouldn't need to do anything, you just have to find the middle point, so you don't have to do anything, but you can do what you want.

This. Been practicing for years, I'm a totally different person. I can't even stand anyone anymore to be honest with you, all I see is beliefs in the other person that they cling to like it's gold, but it's really feces. And they are super serious about life, as if it's real or something. Totally captivated and blinded by their ego's which scurry them to and fro. I can't even relate to anyone but the sages anymore. This life is increasingly more and more silly and cartoonish.

No they aren't, you are delussional. The ignorant people are without morales and end up the gang members and idiots who end up raping and killing the innocent.

Animals are much higher than most people. Animals are conscious, conected to nature, light in their eyes. They eat a diet that is natural, not energy drinks. Humans eat poisons like alcohol, poisons are their diet.

When an animal becomes old, it is not deformed. Compare it to a human who ends up looking like a grotesque abomination. Humans are gross and eat all the fallen foods like meat. The animals are always fasting and moving, they can eat the meat.

The human dies early in their youth and gets taken over by demons, then turns uglier and uglier. Animals retain their innocense until death. Humans lose it and get taken over by their alter-egos as a child. Frick humans. You can attain enlightenment just by being ashamed of humans, and how disgusting our demonic race is.

            >The word ‘kaka’ commonly means filth or shit. The word ‘daimon’ means servant in this context (not the Latin genius). Thus kakodaimonos also may be taken to mean shitty servants. Neuroses are coping mechanisms, often established in childhood, that no longer serve us. Our attachment to them blocks energy and inhibits spiritual development. In fact, spiritual progress may be measured in terms of the “solution of complexes". We solve complexes by becoming aware of, or validating the reality of, neuroses (shitty servants) and resolving their conflicts within the present reality. The past is not cut in stone and we are not condemned to slavishly follow our programming. The solution of complexes liberates the energies they blocked for the healthful use of the incarnation.

Perfect morality is just as fake as positive thinking, it's just another fake ego that the ego creates to keep the ego fueled with identity. And Buddhism doesn't hold the keys to enlightenment because it's a religion. Religions are created by the ego to destroy the core teachings and to replace them with dogma. Buddhisim is the most dogmatic religion, people was 10, 20, even 40 years of their lives performing stupid rituals while the demons clap. Your positivity is so fake. Your entire religion just exists to decorate the ego and keep it well-nourished. At least I fricking know that, but do you?

With a steady meditation practise you are cultivating stillness, and maintaining mindfulness throughout the day allows you to keep that stillness. This makes you calmer, more present, you see things the way they are and you do things with your whole being. Your conversations for example, are much better, as you are really paying attention and listening and this allows for more colourful conversations.
There's so much static in the mind. Random thoughts that are not you, which touch the mind substance and create stories. These are false and inaccurate impressions that need to be ignored. Study the nature of the mind and journal what you notice, eventually there will be a separation
This should be supplemented with the ennoblement of character, knowing thyself and rooting out negative parts of the self, using precepts as a safety net.

Meditation is a multifaceted endeavor. Helps you organize and control the stream of thoughts in your mind, allows you to establish and foster a deeper connection to the spiritual world (and God), and can be a practice/simulation for the shedding of the material form… among many other things. You don’t sit there and expect magic to happen. It takes time, patience and above all, practice.

This is a nice thing to remember and apply in your meditation practice: You don't go into it to chase goals, if you do so then you are just stuck on producing thoughts, emotions e.t.c. if a need to chase a goal arises then be aware of it and watch it without giving into it, if then a thought/emotion like "NOOO I HAVE TO BECOME BETTER OTHERWISE I'LL DIE" arises don't fall into its trap and instead step back and be aware and watch that too.

Also doubt kills meditation since it's a though/emotion too.

Papaji's teachings are like so : "Meditation is concentration. what you really want to be doing is in this statement "No teacher, no teaching, no student"
I enlightened because of this - I let my mind drop. I let it fall to the complete baseline, and I just saw stuff I was daydreaming about - i saw the sea, a jungle with banana leaves, and a hut

The enlightening beings look upon this as like the pains of hell, failing to see buddha-nature because of sinking into voidness and stagnating in quiescence.

    .

    >people of the time have developed opposition to the eternal essence over the course of long years. Perceiving things with confused minds, they thereby turn away from the true source, fixated on being or stuck on emptiness.

    >It is just because you veer away from reality and abandon the root that you try to detach from ordinary feelings and break down your mind on a religious path. If you entertain views like this, you will not get out of their limitations, and won't be able to dispense with their mental and physical elements.

    >Haven't you heard it said: 'All activities are impermanent - this is the law that whatever is originated passes away.'

    .

    >It cannot be said that you will hit the mark by fasting, discipline, constant sitting without reclining, stopping the mind, meditating on emptiness, freezing the spirit, or entering concentration - what connection is there?

    >Cultists in India can go into trances lasting eighty thousand eons, freezing the spirit in utter silence, closing their eyes, mortifying their bodies and annihilating their intellects; but when that period is up, they cannot escape repeating mundane routines, all because their perception of reality is not clear and they have not broken through the root source of birth and death.

    >Wherever you go, you don't harvest a single vegetable, you don't gather a single bundle of firewood - one day when your luck runs out, you'll be eating nothing but grass. Consuming the donations of the faithful in vain, you only arbitrarily claim to be studying, even pretending to be Chan masters.

    >This is of no benefit to people. For your own part, in all your activities twenty-four hours a day your mind will stick to things; when you see people, you only want to seduce them, wagging your tail, pointing to one thing and talking about another. In the eyes and in speech unable to see in actuality, you just want to use imitative sayings to check understandings.

    >How am I different from you? Don't take the glibness of the moment and wind up ingesting others' poison, becoming like greedy prostitutes with no morals, blind baldies and herds of sheep-like monks perverting other people and leading them into hell.

    >Don't read books in a trivializing way, pursuing slogans and mottoes, looking for competition. When one after another passes stuff like this along, when will you ever stop?

    >What I am encouraging is not a bad thing. You must have your own eyes to discern the pure and the polluted - are they words of a Buddha, or words of a demon? Don't let others confuse you.

I wouldn't say full but there is probably some poop inside me. Mediation can help you memorize things, shift your focus, regulate your emotions, learn to control your body in different ways... I could brainstorm more. I'm not saying it's the purpose of life or even the best approach but this is like saying "Jogging doesn't do anything" instead of "Jogging is inferior to swimming" or something. Also there is poop inside you. Embrace Excre. Excrete that which is toxic and unneeded. Release. One does not want the universe but to be inside it and to let it pass through them and to be digested.

Your thoughts and breaths and stuff are literally physically connected to the rest of you. We literally don't know how it's all connected but possibly it all is. Theoretically humans can use this to do amazing shit if they get good enough at it. Also your brain builds connections the more or less you think about something. You literally cannot comprehend totality, but you can build a habit of being grateful or optimistic or hateful or anything you want. This is sorta unrelated but "We make our environments and our environments make us".

Bro we discovered a new bone in the human leg like ten years ago. I'm not mysticizing it. I'm saying we literally don't know how all the systems are connected and yeah I don't know all the things you can do because of that but even just controlling your body temperature, blood pressure, emotions/focus, and stuff like that is documented. What's your bias here? I'm not even trying to fight but like are you mad at people that think it'll let them fly or something? Are you an ex-cult member? Feels like you got a chip on your shoulder about it and can't just accept it for what it is unless you really don't get it.

I don't think it's like reality controlling magic. I think you can like tighten and release the muscles of your butthole to frick with lie detector tests, I think you can lower blood pressure, I think you can be less angry or more angry, and definitely I think there are unknowns or things nobody has learned yet that are possible too that are in that realm of possibility.

The basic meditative state is the same everywhere.

Deliberate focus of awareness is the same, that's about it. Guided visualization is not the same "base meditative state" as breath focus as mantra meditation as goal visualization as the peak experiences felt in wrestling or running or even as sitting and studying in a library.
All of them are forms of meditation.

That 'doing nothing' and keeping an empty head for 5 seconds or more shows / helps build a greater amount of control over ones own mind then what most people are capable of.
If you have issues with intrusive thoughts during meditation, I'd recommend Sound and Object concentration methods to help you get your toes in the water.

Instead of screwing your eyes shut, Leave them open and keep an unbroken line of sight with something utterly un-interesting to you on a conscious [or if you somewhat suspect, sub-conscious] level. This is essentially what the Japanese Buddhists do with the plain wooden wall. This prevents day-dreaming about other visual stimuli.
Repeat a nonsense noise, nonsense words or any sort of easily repeatable phrase internally until the inner voice also fades.

Enochian tells us that crucifixion is considered "ZEN" this is accurate with the definition for the actual word. This type of torture method is the same used when Jesus was crucified. What's the difference? Jesus gave up before his ended. He called out and asked God why he was forsaken. This created a specific type of zen that the church mass produces and spreads. While its fulfilling to the body, its deceptive to consciousness. It tricks the mind into giving up.

My theory is that this was a creation of the israeli people as a gift to Bael. Bael never gives up. What better way to fool this beast than by tricking it with a gift like this? Seems probable.

I'm referring to the Behavioral Sink observed in the Mouse Utopia experiments.
            >The mice had lost the capacity to rebuild their numbers—many of the mice that could still conceive, such as the “beautiful ones” and their secluded singleton female counterparts, had lost the social ability to do so. In a way, the creatures had ceased to be mice long before their death—a “first death,” as Calhoun put it, ruining their spirit and their society as thoroughly as the later “second death” of the physical body.

            You got food
            You are around other mice
You can play or chose not too.

            What made these mice “sick”?
            Was it even sickness?

Why would someone instinctively call them the beautiful ones?
            Is there a metaphor here?
