    sit down
    close your eyes
be aware of sensations, emotions, feelings, thoughts, sounds and everything else that comes to your mind.
don't try to stop or change anything, do not try to force anything, do not try to do anything.
just be aware of what comes to mind
no, you're not doing it wrong, you just sit and notice whatever comes to mind
if you feel stressed or something don't try to calm yourself down or anything, just be aware of it, how it feels and what you're thinking about it and so on.
this way you're distancing yourself from the emotion and the feeling and the thought and so on, staying in awareness.

It all depends on how much you've lost control of your thoughts, desires and actions and how much extra energy you have on a daily basis.

I suggest you start with the basics...
    1) remove meats, coffee, sugar and yeast from your diet.
    2) stop jerking off.
    3) start going to gym.
    4) stop overstimulating "the mind" with television and/or music.

If you cannot sit quietly in meditation you might need to purify your mind first.
    Download this book...

If you've reach a point where Tiktok, instagram and Facebook have modified your brain and you cannot engage in reading I recommend you do guided meditation.
The best program there is is called the gateway experience but do keep in mind the audios are mostly to teach you what you have to do and you have to learn each exercise and master it.

    https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLtaSdefcIitEnmFOyh6RQalPoMy-KcaYU&si=ZY03u_6stX5_m_2N

If you are an energetic fellow then I would recommend you do martial arts. You can start with Tai Chi then progress to Chi gong, then progress to Nei gong until you reach Dao gong.

Removing the current joys of life is not required and makes finding inner peace unreasonably hard. Coffee, penis and music are not evil, rather than focusing on these add mental silence into your life to hear sanity and find deeper states of being.

Ok, and like listening to music with evil message, but that you enjoy as an art form?

If you now enjoy listening damaged artists you will naturally correct the behaviour when adding mindfulness into your life.

        Guys!
If you want to drink coffee, drink coffee.
If you want to jerk off, go ahead and jerk off.
If you want to listen to music, go ahead and listen to music.

What I'm offering are guidelines for serious people whom look to gain powers and divinity. But you don't have to do and/or follow any of my recommendations.

Speaking from the mind and unproven one on of top that. We don't have to pioneer the way but learn from those who have broken out of the dream. Can you name any great teachers who were anti music?

            Anonymous

But I'm not anti-music nor anti-television. I'm simply stating that music and television overstimulates "the mind".
Op stated that he wishes to regain control over his thoughts and it is literally impossible to start with a 1 hour meditation session when "the mind" is out of our control.

That's why starting with the simple things to slow down "the mind" is the best way to start regaining control.

            >it is literally impossible to start with a 1 hour meditation session
Possible and normal, practice will teach the mind to behave.
Read this book and stop making it so complicated.

NTA but you are both kinda right, reducing media intake indeed helps the mind and any medication practice.

But the reverse is also true, meditating will make your mind NOT want to take more media/drugs/e.t.c. inside of it.

Lotus pose has nothing to do with meditation and everything to do with body identity.
            >I'm an intermediate practitioner.
I would say a beginner. Still confusing meditation with what your body does, not feeling your energies, unable to access trance, not having mystical experiences... These ideally aren't what meditation is about either but shows you have progressed.

So you can’t get into lotus posture.
Let alone sit for any significant amount of time.

I can tell you are approaching this from an egotistical point of view. You shouldn't give advice if you are a beginner.

I can hold full lotus for 10-15 minutes, yet wouldn't call myself intermediate yet. I would reserve that for at least 1 hour in full lotus.

the lotus pose, isnt that just joint flexibility

As well as tendons and ligaments.

Since nobody gave you a concrete answer, or just literally made up shit from some larp they are engaged in, Shamatha is by far the easiest, most effective form of meditation to start with. Its practiced in every form of Buddhism for good reason. The risks are minimal as long as you don't do it for too long, or without guidance as well.

I think its just "power over thoughts" is just genetics
theres a biological basis for self control and if you aint got it you wont have it. buddhist teachers even knew some students just had more "aptitude" than others. in spirituality as in all other places, its genetics.

The body doesn't know what darkness is but listens to the mind. Assuming that the darkness is the symbol of letting go, stop being a fricking pussy. Coping with spirit guides or angels is an option, hold their hands while walking in.

I refuse to take help from anything external. But yes it does in the end boil down to me being a pussy. I've tried mental gymnastics and they work to a certain extent but not very effective. It is about letting go but I'm more afraid that I will see weird scary shit with my eyes open (eyes closed is fine).

Fear attracts negativity, after letting go of fear the scary shit doesn't appear. Seeing some shit isn't dangerous but your mind can panic if you allow it. How about your own soul, those are not under any illusions and can help when asked.
