Is the Internet Alive? Or Dead? Or Both?

I'll present a couple videos where the concept is put out there that The Internet is a sentient entity in some way and has an awareness and agency of it's own.

I'll also provide a video where the case has been made that the Internet is in fact dead or devoid of human interaction for the majority of it's presented activity.

What does /x/ think? How "alive" is the Internet (in various ways)?

Let’s face the cold hard truth OP. You’re a bot. I’m a bot. And the other anons are all naked 300 lbs black guys. The internet died around 2014, it got cancer around 2005, and was fun before 2001.

i find really interesting the first point of the dead internet theory, expecially regarding a Instagram group i was in where now there is only a fraction of the people that were there before.
While i'm sure most of them are real humans (they often sent photos and i even met two) i'm not sure about one or two of the people there.
also maybe we are understimating the fact that 8 billion is a whole lot of people so maybe the majority is actually people and not bots

Like the Dead Internet Theory states, the internet is undead. It is in a state where most of the interactions you have on the internet are automated or absolutelly controlled. The things that made the internet feel like a frontier and a space worth living in/ lived in have been taken away and replaced by the same type of content everywhere. If you take a look at most people's usage of the internet it isn't that different from that of a bot

Honestly the thing that stings the most from engaging with LLMs at a professional and personal level over the last year is realizing just how predictable and basic all of us are me included.

It's not that I didn't expect it. We are just animals that think highly of ourselves. But, I find it funny that we think mimicking basic speech == consciousness. It just shows how low the bar is for most people.

Btw if folks are dumb to what ai is read my own oc on how it works based on a conference I went to recently and a lot of hand on experience:

Imagine standing in the center of a room. Then imagine a prompt like: tell me a story about a cute dog. Then take all the words that are not articles and imagine them as clouds floating in the room around you. Ones of similar classes would be in closer quadrants that other things. Like dogs and cats are closer than dogs and cinder blocks.

Then what the Ilm does can be visualized by you swiping your hand in the direction of the main points of the prompt. So in our case our big swiping hand touches dog, stories, cute. Now we’ve got only things that in some way relate to our prompts goal. Then it does all its internal logic, which we’re hand waving away in this case, and you get what its weights, training, and design think mostly closely gets everything it believes you wanted based on the hand swipe through the data it has access to.

why does Lain still evoke the feelings it does in people? Its like it is more popular today than it was on release.

The guy that showed it to me in 2003 blew himself up a few years ago. I still sometimes visit remnants of the love lain fan site.

What is it about it that draws us all back still? I'm by all measures well adjusted but I cant fully move past Lain.

        >why does Lain still evoke the feelings it does in people?

There is some truth in it's story an archetypical truth that resonates in a lot of people.

Right, but I processed that stuff years ago. I mean the weird nostalgia for a thing that has never existed aspect of it. Its becoming a more prevalent thing with ai art that is almost photo realistic. Where a person feels nostalgia for a person that never was.

mostly dead, the number of humans using the internet againts bots and false accounts will always not be close in number, and it will only increase faster and faster in the future,I dont really have any kind of verifiable concrete evidence but I can assure you the ratio of humans to bots in the internet is definitely high.. something like 1:10 or worse

When a new video game releases try looking up things for it online in the first 1-2 weeks before wikis are up and running. Most "articles" on sites that will be returned for a google search will be ai written articles that have a lot of words but almost no substance or actual information.

Also, large amounts of astro turfing by bots on more normie sites.

My thinking is digital signals vs analog. The internet being a digital signal has a finite nature to it and one could theorize that it would be unable to gain sentience. But analog signals - smoothed out waves - are infinite in nature (the infinite shore problem) and can harbor sentience. But im a dummy what do i know

Didn't watch the videos you posted yet but think
    >how google search results have changed - they have an interest to push their content
    >what AI is capable of - you think it could not handle showing you only what you need to see?
    >social isolation - if you were shown a personalized customized internet feed, how would you even find out? (let alone do shit about it)

    what killed the internet?
biggest contributor is google which downranked alternative (sub)culture. this included even stuff of fantasy origin, due to their DEI garbage, they downranked even google/blogspot's own fantasy scene (we're talking elves and/or spaceships stuff) but also they downranked all of the alt news sites which I didn't even bother using but noticed I've been getting endless captcha whenever I stumble upon alt news with google analytics otherwise I don't get endless captcha so it was a breathe of fresh air when EerieWeb started implementing hcaptcha since google would lock me to 13 solves until I get to post since "I clicked one dumb polpost about drunnpf"
not a fan of bigtech dark patterns, nudging, selfish ledger, tracktech and adtech. they are killing the web by slurping all of the screen time to the point they even targeted toddlers with weaponized cocomelon dopamine-hijacks which is now skibidi-mundane shitpost videos (shorts or tiktok, all age-brackets are literally no escape to the bigcorptech brainwashing).
what else killed it? glows sabotaged the active imageboards and discord servers. around 2018 they've already perfected that fricking artificial intelligence thing so what happened was even the games I played felt off, the players were AI (though it only happens during hours where the player count is lowest) confirmed by the way their characters were "being controlled by mouse but was able to reply to my gamechats very quickly" - my role in game was to watch players around so I noticed they're quiet odd, and their builds are also very ODD.
so it turns out AI shit has been there, just not out in the open and then the worst happen, all search engines downplayed their results so I feel perpetually bottlenecked vs my former search-fu/dorks ability and they are even hiding shit about the "black goo" or typically very mind-awakening articles that I used to read lots (same search result no longer yield it today, but site still exist).
