i'm having trouble reconciling my Christian beliefs with the fact that (believe it or not) Ganesha Himself paid me a visit. i'm an american with no hindu/indian background

under strict Christian belief, nope God is a jealous God and I'm going into the lake of fire

under indian spirituality i can maybe think of Jesus as an avatara of God. but i know if i go down this route i'm not following the Christian bible 100%

what do i do?

i've told this story many times on /x/ before

i was alone in my apartment and an evil red orb was shooting lasers at me that hurt. i actually thought this red orb thing at the time was YVWH but now i'm pretty sure it wasn't.

anyway the image of Ganesha appeared and He made the evil red orb thing disappear.

i didn't even know anything about Ganesha or his name at that point i was like "did i just see the hindu elephant god from the simpsons?" but i've been researching Ganesha and Vedanta ever since. this book has been helpful: https://archive.org/details/lovingganeshasivayasubramuniyaswamishivayasubramanya_163_t

Christianity is an incredibly dogmatic religion that spread primarily through intolerance of opposing beliefs and hostile takeovers of non-believer's societies, similar to Islam
Indian spirituality developed over thousands of years of earnest spiritual seeking and tolerance to new and different points of views, leading to many different systems/sects
Ganesh is based but don't forget he's just the child of Shiva and Shakti

either you can continue further in your christian beliefs, or research hinduism and see if it feels compatible to you. i'm not hindu but i am a polytheist and have considered becoming hindu in the past before. it's ultimately up to you and no one can make this decision for you. just know that being a hindu, depending on what sect you decide to join, is a spiritual commitment, just as any religion should be, and so it's important to take time to consider if the sacrifices (letting go of your previous beliefs, possibly adhering to vegetarianism, waking up early and washing to pray, ect.) are ones you are willing to make.

Both can exist at the same time. You can go to domains in the astral realm with christian saints, angels etc, then also go to domains with hindu beings.

The map is not the territory. In the information age you can come up with your own system. Ganesh as a being is quite a chill God, you can work with just him instead of fully engaging with hindu systems if you'd like.

Like i said its not an either ... or ... situation.

Ganesha is the gatekeeper to Hinduism, so people often see him when they are thinking about getting into Hinduism but haven't been initiated into the deity systems

maybe this will help i wrote this book, Krishna Be Our Light, about how if Jesus is the Christ then he is Krishna, an Avatar of Vishnu

i hope nobody minds that i shill my books on here with my real name. maybe one day they will be popular with /x/

In the Bhagavad-Gita, Krishna says he can be worshiped in his particular forms (such as Jesus if my prophesy speaks true) or at best in his transcendental form

Why do hindus do this? You do it with the Buddha too, calling him an avatar of Vishnu. hinduism sucks, it shows just how wrong idol worship is, so out of deep insecurity you subsume everyone else's deities into your own. Your caste system is reprehensible.

Indeed, Krishna the dark skinned dravidian tried to civilise you fricks with monotheism but that failed, and so you worship piss and poo.

You should most likely figure out which take on Ganesh from Hinduism you have in mind. Is it Vaishavite one? The Smartist one or an another like the Samkya one?

The Bible says to test the spirits, implying that not all are of God, not all are good. There's an old story about little bird on a cold night and a cow comes along and takes a shit on him keeping him warm. Then a fox comes along and pulls him out of the shit an eats him. Moral of the story: Not everybody who shits on you is trying to hurt you. Not everybody who pulls you out of shit is doing it to help you.

The mutant abomination streetshitter anthro elephant with 8 arms came to help you... supposedly. Think about it anon. I'm not saying it isn't real. I'm saying why on earth would you trust it?

I practice theravada buddhism, never been a christian, but one of the strongest visions i've had was of a giant cross emanating fire in front of me during meditation. Getting visions from different models that aren't your own isn't uncommon amongst meditators.

This is true. Meditation draws out all sorts of muck from our minds. This is why Buddhism and Hinduism state you should be ethical before you start because otherwise stuff gets really wild.

Lol no it doesnt. You have to be ethical before doing kundalini type stuff, or pranayama. Simple meditation wont do anything bad

I've met Krishna before and he was awesome. Pure unconditional love. I throw him and jesus in my gratitude prayer every morning now. The whole 'there's only one god and it's me and you have to worship me only and also kill those other people' is demon-shit, not god shit. God and all manifestations of it are pure love. I believe there are certain hindu sects that believe Abraham made a pact with a demonic being.

not that anon and not to be total hater but they're basically abrahamic ways in hinduism and i dislike it completely, especially ISKCON

          Anonymous

A lot of the Hindu traditions are kinda like that at the ground level. The Shiva sutras for example are pretty critical of Vaishnava Dharmasâstra and the Vishnu Sutra. Samkya-Yoga and Smartism each see each other as completely false etc. ISKON is far worse than even that for sure though.

pretty much, like Shaiva Siddhanta is basically the same deal as the Gaudiyans. then you've got Shuddhadvaita which as I understand is essentially monistic shaivism but with vishnu/krishna, and really they are both just the same as Vijnana Vedanta, just Advaita without the inherent preference for nirguna over sirguna brahman

i had an evil entity once put me in a very shitty situation and then offer me a way out. at first, i had no idea it was the same entity. but later on, i figured it out. The fact alone that you think God being jealous is negative goes to show how little you understand of the faith and really puts into perspective how you never really had faith to begin with.
