i don't want to be forgotten

i want to make a statue of myself + write my name and stuff about myself at it's base in multiple languages. i want to make it so it will stand the test of time and survive for thousands of years, maybe end up dug out of the rubble of our civilisation. people might study it, display it at a museum, learn my name and see my face. what are the /x/ implications of never being forgotten?

    Why not do what a Buddhist monk did and have a statue made around your corpse made of gold?

      1. gold is expensive as frick
      2. my body needs to rot and return to the earth just how The Lord commanded
      3. it would prob come with controversy and legal problems for my surviving familly members

      but now that You said that, maybe i should put traces of my Dna in vials inside the statute. maybe cum and hair and nails and blood and piss and shit

      Imagine coating your body with very stealable stuff. Anyway, it's a crapshoot what will survive the the global dark ages after the downfall of industrial, you would be better not worrying about it.

      That kinda seems very egotistical surprised a monk done that

    Ask Ozymandias, King of Kings, how that worked out for him

      pretty well actually giving the fact that You just wrote down his name

        So in 5,000yr time you just want someone to know there was a dude called [Your name] who had a lot of stuff, but it's all now completely dust and literally nothing else is known? That's even sadder than a dilapidated 70yr old telling you what hot stuff they were in their 20s.

        • 1 week ago

          What's even sadder is the movie that survived for 5000 years, and then when the credits roll at the end, people see the characters spelling the names but have no idea what they mean or why they're there.

            Kek. So it goes.

            yes. that's literally what i said

            Literally go drown in a bog, you'd be of much more interest to the people over 7,000AD as a well preserved leatherman than a useless name on a piece of rock

    I met a poster, a real antiquegay,
    Who said—“Two vast and colorless eyes on a green visage
    Were posted by anons. . . . and near them, on the OP,
    Low quality from some forgotten archive lies a meme, whose grin,
    And wrinkled lip, and sneer of smug command,
    Tell that its poster well those passions read
    He once held, memed on these lifeless things,
    The replies that mocked him, and the shitposts he fed;
    And on the post, these words appear:
    My name is Pepemandias, King of memes;
    Look on my reposts, ye Mighty, and despair!
    Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
    Of that archived image, boundless and bare
    The lone frogposter returns to reddit.”

    >/x/ implications of never being forgotten?
    Having an egregore created in your image due to all those people remembering you, probably
    If you keep biological relics in the monument it might develop properties like those of cathedrals that store body parts from saints
    Becoming a saint or powerful wizard may help you manage this construct from beyond, otherwise it might have unpredictable results

    I met a traveller from an antique land,
    Who said—“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
    Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,
    Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
    And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
    Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
    Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
    The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
    And on the pedestal, these words appear:
    My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;
    Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!
    Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
    Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
    The lone and level sands stretch far away.”

    I already fricking hate zoomers, imagine the nu gens thousands of years later doing some futuristic dab on your statue for telepathytok. Why the frick would to want to be remembered at that point? Do you actually care what complete strangers think of you? Strangers which aren't even born yet?

    Big insecurity energy, op.

    This is the crux of the issue:
    All the people that know about you in the future will die and forget about you. Maybe others will be born and know about you, but they will also die and forget.
    So what was the point of fame?

    And after those thousands of years have passed, you will then be forgotten forever. A thousand years, a million years, a billion years, they all meet the same end. Every attempt to cheat impermanence is futile.
