All sorts of ones, depending on how unlucky you are.
You are basically like a kitten walking up to a group of human strangers on the street without knowing what they'll do to you. They'll either pet you and feed you, shoot you, or capture you in a cage to torture you to death for fun.

You have no option other than to consume literature on occultism, if you discriminate authors based on what other people say you're gonna become stunted because of those people. Read authors even if you don't like them or don't agree with their paradigm, study different mystical traditions and their esotericism and derive the trends yourself.

Pretty sure not the answer you wanted but it's the only one.

It's not so much disagreeing, but it's how to tell the grifters and cultists from genuine occult?

        Anonymous

By doing what i've said you'll eventually derive an understanding of what exactly is "magic" and you'll develop your own occult paradigm which will serve as a lens to analyze and manage information.

Truth is there are grifters and cultists with genuine occult knowledge, you're on your own, you need to first learn what's out there by not discriminating what you read and when you have your own paradigm you will start learning from yourself, the paradigm will produce your own tools. This is how occultists are formed, there is no other way.

          Hey kids
Magic is fake and gay. It's often just manipulation or coordinated manipulation. Its israeli tricks. You've been brainwashed with media your whole lives, your brains are susceptible to suggestion.

          All magicians are homosexuals

Anything true is always self-evident. You don't need to read anything at all to learn it. Just look within yourself and at the world around you, then meditate on it and/or think it over. If it's real, you will find it eventually.

Anyone who says they have all the answers, a special connection, or is the only one with access to a truth is a liar. Avoid every single source that does things like this no matter how popular they are. Also avoid anyone who says to just trust them blindly. This means they don't want you to think too hard about things, which, in turn, means they don't have your best interests in mind. Finally, look for monetization. The more money they stand to make off of you, the less likely they are to encourage you to be self-sufficient. Run from these people!

Lol. Yeah, that's the paranormal in a nutshell. I really wish everyone could use the same terms when trying to describe things, tbh. It would make life so much easier if we all could understand each other,.

I never know what that means.
does the you with the broken leg understand the elderly man with the limp and vis versa?
how wide does one need their circle of understanding to be?

            Anonymous

Being an old man with limp, yes. Yes he does. Sometimes perspective and experience line up to create excellent understanding which leads to greater empathy. Sometimes it can create confusion or mistakes, though, if someone misunderstands a situation or extrapolates things wrong. Like the guy who hates an entire state because he grew up in one neighborhood full of buttholes in one city.

It's good to try to have a wide circle of understanding, IMHO. But you need to keep your bearings. When you swing everywhere with no real center it's not a circle anymore. It's a clusterfrick. Keeping your bearings is the hard part, because that circle gets pretty wide.

I’ll point you on the right track but I’m not spoon feeding you.
First you must learn how the world truly works. This takes years.
Once you have a firm grasp on the nature of the world, you can begin to deconstruct it. This is your first step.

Ok OP I'm gonna give you the run down.

The story you tell yourself about reality is part of a data set that influences causality. Ritual and focused intent can alter your inputs with more intensity. But your subjective will is only part of an aggregate. Your higher or subconscious mind is a bigger part, and reprogramming that requires long term lifestyle shifts.

Trance states and drugs can be used to interact with fictional figures and transform your default consciousness over time.

Entities which are not currently well understood use these fictional figures from various folklores as faces to interact with us. They follow the rules of their act, for the most part, unless you got something nasty. Its possible that these other beings are the restless dead.

All of this is real. You will find science that backs it up. These entities are potentially the explanation behind UFO encounters as well.

Mainstream Abrahamic religion and atheism both are control systems created by deep power structures to occlude magic from the masses, simply because too much of our cultural production processes are immersed in magical dialectical processes for the average person not to go insane, which is a big part of what drives "schizophrenia". Abrahamic religion primes you to project your shadow and look for the nefarious evil outside of yourself and normative power structures, so when a lot of people study the occult they become "conspiratorial" in the misguided sense because they're looking for a "culprit" instead of just understanding the dynamics of power and ideology. There's a reason why abrahamic societies make schizos and animist societies make shamans out of the same people.

Alan Moore's Promethea, Grant Morrison's The Invisibles, and the YouTube channel formscapes is where you want to start. Remember that there is a real science to this but that it is so utterly woven into your own subjectivity that you will need to practice this science as an art.

    Easy.
The tradition I like is real and everything else is time-wasting nonsense.
On a serious note, see for yourself what works. Anything else is just taking other people's word for it (which can be a good heuristic for what is probably legit, but not fully trustworthy if you don't see for yourself). One of the most commonly recommended books I've seen personally for beginning practice is Initiation Into Hermetics. Good luck!
