Contacting the dead

Why is it such a problem in post-industrial society? It’s the most ancient form of spirituality there is along with animism, and people in the East do it all the time. Where did the meme that evil spirits pretend to be your ancestors come from?

Anywhere outside of Shamanic society has either outlawed it or culturally shunned it due to a worldwide conflation of mediums and necromancy that began sometime in Greece, post-Roman influence.

Can I get a QRD on this? I don't really understand how Roman influence factors in here.

Read up on the life of Apollonius of Tyana. He and others were persecuted by Romans and Greeks for trying to enlighten them to what OP was saying, because they assumed it was necromancy.

The Romans were anti-spiritual in general. Their view was basically, you sacrifice to the gods as is traditional and don't bother with any of it otherwise. And if you do anything else, you're a barbarian, a gay, and probably trying to undermine Roman society. They even outlawed magic in general a couple times pre-Christianity.

What did the pre necromancy/mediumship merge look like?

Channeling and veneration of the dead is something I'm deeply into and I've frankly never understood why /x/ gives it such a bad name. Last time I made a thread about this, about half the replies were people claiming it's entirely impossible to contact the deceased in any way whatsoever, or the "they're all demons larping" meme.
I don't want to say it's because of Christians, but I get the feeling that it's because of Christians. It's always like this, they make a certain practice a cornerstone part of their own religion and then proceed to shun everyone else who's doing the same thing but under a different name.

      >Christianity was spread by non-christians
      >Forced conversions, burnt books
      >Followers left the main religion multiple times
      K. Frick them for other reasons but banning of necromancy was political and came from Rome.

You can't do it. Anything you contact is just a demon in disguise.

Isnt that why graveyards exist in the first place, so people can stop by from time to time and talk to their ancestors

Because in post industrial society the only thing people would be asking their ancestors is how much time do i have before i go to work

The future Iphone42 could do that, Steve Jobs told me that it would be planned during a séance of spiritualism.

Everybody gets all upset when the dead haunt the living, yet the living spend an awful lot of time trying to haunt the dead. WTF?

It's because a particular group of moralgayging busybodies has decided that anything to do with spirits and the dead is LE SATANIC.
By the way the moralhomosexuals who do this are just useful idiots for the puppetmasters of society, who do this to gatekeep everyone else from what should be public knowledge and keep them enslaved.

Why did you have to mention post industrial society like its.... what, you just wanted some fancy words?
We just dont have that tradition. Chinese also, i dont know much chinese history, dont know if they still practice, or if the commies destroyed it, or, chinese history is complicated. Many religions and stuff
Also, in vedas says when the offerings to the ancestors cease, they lose their place in the pitalokas and, go to hell.
Whole fricking world is spiritually ignorant. You cant expect homies to read

    >his culture doesn't have the annual festival where food is given to one's ancestors by putting it in fire
    >his culture doesn't have a tradition where the astrological birth chart of person can be used to know the evil deeds of one's ancestors which may create problem in their lives, but which may also tell what remidies to undertake to pardon your bloodline from the suffering because of the misdeeds
