books

Good morning sirs!
I'd like to have a thread on /x/ related literature.
I've been trying to fill my library with some well researched subjects in a very academic type of format. If you guys can suggest any material please post it here. Specifically it would be great if anyone knows a good book on Appalachian superstition or old gods/hauntings in that region.

I'd like to suggest to anyone interested in lmaos and UFOs to read Whitley Streiber's Commuion series (including Transformation, Breakthrough, Secret School, and Confirmation). It's a wild ride and after the first book it really begins to stretch belief but go all in if weird ayy stuff interests you.
If you're of the lmaos are demons persuasion, try Cracks in the Great Wall.

In EverQuest people would refer to their characters as their toons
Eventually the term was co opted by World of Warcraft from player migrations where it ended up on EerieWeb
Since trannies are "customizable characters" they are troons

Picrel is criminally underrated. It's full of metaphorical topics, crosses the border between fake and real and takes your mind for a ride like a proper acid trip if you can indulge into the fantasy, it's like the nudge that you needed to see beyond, like looking at something that isn't there, making your pupil focus on something between you and the wall.

So would you classify it is fiction? You said it crosses the real and fake border. Is it a knowledge and truth book or something else?

Is this related to eastern philosophy and/or mysticism? You're piqing my interest with the mage talk.

Is related to the metaphysics that govern this world with the archaics hindus point of view. Every manifestation (us for example) has power (Shakti) and by acknowledgeing this you can acquire magical powers (siddhis) by doing some practices (saddhanas) like mantras or calling upon gods by pure vivid imagination. It teaches pranayama to acquire this prana (ki, ether, chi, energy) and do things like overheat your body. It teaches how to remove any Self conditions to feel like jivanmukti (liberated from the material world) by virtue of cutting the ties from the samsara (material world, chaotic world). It teaches you that sex is the sadhana that helps trascend and destroy the Self.
I could go on, if you read it carefully and slowly you will get both the theory and the practices.

Right now i'm feeling the Shakti-power so much that it makes me want to do a long session of body training; my mind totally at bliss without any thoughts, only following pure action; can see through lots of energies around me, the essences (arthas) of people and my spirit; can impose fear by incrementing this power that is hidding inside my body (because we have kundalini which is like a cage for the Shakti withnus); and also i can control this power by virtue of Shiva (we can say his is the master and who controls Shakti).

I could go on more but just check the book.

Okay, I'll look for it. If this works then I can certainly put it to good use for self-improvement. When you say sex destroys the self though, is that bad in this point of view? Because I'm married and that's just part of our lives.

There is a difference between the Self and the True Self. One is constructed throughout this world like a fictional character (for example person in latin literally means "mask used by actors"), the other is the one you discover during your life time, you will know you found it by a certain feeling of liberation

I mentioned Cracks in the Great Wall in OP. The author is Charles Upton for anyone that needs to know.
A rather strange but interesting read is Messengers by Mike Clelland, it's a deep dive on lmaos and the seeming connection to owls. Also if synchronicity is your thing it's filled with that as well as a look into the symbolism behind owls in different cultures.
Jacques Vallee probably needs no introduction, but in case there's a newfriend here, read Passport to Magonia, and the three part series which includes Confrontations, Dimensions, and Revelations.
A good book on reported ghost activity/hauntings is Haunted in America by Leslie Rule.

That's about all I've got guys.

Check out picrel. It's a semi-bioautography heavily fictional written by one of the biggest LSD wizards of the modern age while he was in prison serving multiple life sentances for LSD production. He's since managed to talk himself out and was released recently.

It's an exploration of altered states of consciousness, interwoven with esoteric knowledge, victorian prose and a kind of a spy story. I would say it's for advanced readers only since it's a brick thick, written in difficult victorian prose and has a lot of references to literature that low brows will not get or enjoy. It might also be a tad bit pretentious, but then again it's from the king of LSD so it kind of fits.

I've always been fascinated with why people believe that what they see while tripping on hallucinogens is real. By definition, they are hallucinating, so seeing something that isn't there. Will this book address that or can you suggest one which does?

Recently bought this book by some spanish guy Ramiro A. Calle, titled "Verdad y mentira de el tercer ojo"/"truth and lies of the third eye"
First chapter he talks about how the book "the third eye" by lobsang rampa, is a fiction full of fantasies only to mislead the honest reader. Even says the author of the book doesn't exist, its a pen name, and there are no records or evidences of his existence
Then he gets to the more interesting parts about tibetan buddhism. Talks some about the three branches, seems like he's partial to theravada, or is the one he subscribes more to, but still says something about the history of mahayana and vajrayana. The latter is the one that interests me, so, now i'll be looking into Padmasambhava, Milarepa, and the nyingmapa school
Dont have anythint on your particular interests, op, sorry
